Energy management comes first. Exercise 3-5 times per week, get 7-8 hours of sleep, eat whole grains and unprocessed foods, drink water, and eat 4-5 smaller meals. Switch from a linear schedule (work spread evenly) to a circular schedule (work hard, then rest fully) with a day off each week, evenings off, and 90-minute timeboxes.
Young argues against "studying" as an undefined activity. Instead, itemize the specific tasks you need to perform to learn the material. His list: read chapters, complete assignments and take notes, use holistic learning methods on trouble spots, and optionally take flow-based notes before tests.

This eliminates the stress of deciding whether to work more or less and prevents both procrastination and burnout.
Batching groups similar tasks to reduce context-switching. Organization (everything has a home, carry a notepad, maintain calendar and to-do list) eliminates the stress of lost materials. Self-education requires building your own structure: daily reading, daily practice, daily goal setting, overcoming the frustration barrier, and setting written learning goals with deadlines.
Part IV: Summary of Holistic Learning
Part IV is a recap and getting-started guide. Young advises analyzing your strengths and weaknesses first, then picking one Mind Challenge to practice for at least three weeks. Start with metaphor, visceralization, or diagraming because they form the core. Use the bonus printout materials. Document your progress with a one-sentence journal.

5. Set up the Weekly/Daily Goals system: At the start of next week, write down everything you want to accomplish. Each evening, create a daily goals list from the weekly list. You are obligated to finish each list but no more. This ends the guilt of "should I be working more?"

6. Find one practical application: Pick a subject you are studying that seems abstract or useless. Spend 10 minutes brainstorming at least 20 ways you could apply it in your daily life. Pick one and implement it.

7. Design a learning project: Pick a skill you want to learn. Design a 1-3 month project with a clear outcome that will force you to learn. Write it down on paper with a deadline. Keep it small enough to finish but ambitious enough to push you.
